WHO WE ARE
Pediatric Optometry and Vision Care
Christine D. Squeri, O.D.
Pediatric Optometry and Vision Care is a practice dedicated to high quality eye care for toddlers, children, adolescents and in limited cases, adults who require specialized care.
The demand on our children's eyes is greater than ever. An eye exam that is only evaluating a child's ability to see the letters on an eye chart is missing many crucial elements. Most notably, how well the eyes work together to focus, follow and track during reading, writing and other near tasks, as well as determining a child’s risk for developing progressive myopia. Dr. Squeri provides comprehensive pediatric eye exams as well as specific testing for diagnosing progressive myopia and binocular vision deficiencies. These cases may require additional monitoring, treatments to prevent the onset and progression of myopia using eye drops or specialized contact lenses, vision therapy, or prisms, among other treatments.
For over 20 years, parents have depended on Dr. Christine Squeri to provide their children and adolescents specialized pediatric optometric care. She is passionate about bringing a new level of eye care to the Upper East Side for the many children and families in the area who are looking for a pediatric optometrist they can trust.

COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAMS
Pediatric & Adolescent
During a Comprehensive Eye Exam, your child's vision will not only be tested for sight accuracy and eye health but how well their eyes work together. Eye-brain coordination symptoms can affect your child's reading and comprehension, cause concentration issues and often headaches. A complete eye health evaluation, refraction and consultation will be performed to rule out disease or other eye related problems. Corrective lenses, other treatments or referral to other medical specialists will be recommended, if needed.
COMPREHENSIVE MYOPIA ASSESSMENT
Pediatric & Adolescent
During a Comprehensive Myopia Assessment, a careful history to assess your child's risk factors for developing progressive myopia will be reviewed. Your child’s vision will not only be tested for sight accuracy and eye health but with these risk factors taken into account. Additional testing, specific to monitoring myopia will be performed, including their current refractive status (compared to age normals), their binocular status, axial length measurement, and eye health evaluation. Treatments will be tailored to each specific child based on their exam findings and history, and may include monitoring, lifestyle modifications, low dose atropine eye drops, MiSight soft contact lenses, or other corrective lenses. Referral to other medical specialists will be recommended, if needed.

CONTACT LENS FITTING & TRAINING
Pediatric & Adolescent
If your child is ready to have an alternative to wearing glasses, contact lenses may be the answer. Proper lens fit, type, manufacturer, technique, hygiene and care are essential for new contact lens wearers. Dr. Squeri has the experience, patience and variety of training methods suitable for your child. She will take the time necessary for your child to perfect their technique and offer as much dedicated follow-up care as they need to ensure your child is totally comfortable, fully confident and well equipped to handle their lenses on their own.
TODDLER EYE EXAMS
Toddler
Dr. Squeri and her staff are trained to evaluate the health and visual status of toddlers, even though they can not verbalize what they see. Hand-held equipment, patience and flexibility allow for a successful patient, parent and doctor experience.

SPECIAL NEEDS EYE EXAMS
Pediatric & Adolescent
Dr. Squeri is trained to evaluate the health and visual status of children with special needs, even if they can not verbalize what they see. Hand-held equipment, patience and flexibility allow for a successful patient, parent and doctor experience.
BINOCULAR VISION CONSULTATIONS
Pediatric, Adolescent & Adult
During a Binocular Vision consultation, you or your child's eyes will be assessed for how well they work together and how the eyes may be affecting the ability to focus efficiently and effectively. The inability of the eyes to work together may be acquired or naturally occurring, often becoming apparent when reading and near-work intensifies. If you or your child are having vision problems more serious than just clarity of vision, ourFunctional Vision Survey may help determine if a binocular vision evaluation is recommended. We are experienced in treating binocular vision deficiencies & other visual disturbances requiring specialized care. Some children and adults may develop binocular vision disorders following a concussion or other Traumatic Brain Injury (car accident, fall, etc.). Dr. Squeri may be able to help with special prism glasses and/ or through the use of modified vision therapy techniques.

VISION THERAPY
Pediatric, Adolescent & Adult
Vision Therapy is a form of exercise for your eye muscles that improve how the two eyes work together. When an eye muscle weakness is detected by a binocular vision exam, vision therapy may be recommended to strengthen the muscles’ connection with the brain to eliminate or minimize symptoms such as headache, eye strain, or double vision. At Pediatric Optometry and Vision Care, each patient will have an individualized therapy program designed specific to their needs.
PRE- & POST-SURGICAL ORTHOPTICS
Pediatric, Adolescent & Adult
Some strabismus surgery patients are candidates for orthoptics or vision therapy to enhance the outcome of their eye muscle surgery. This therapy may be beneficial to both children and adults.
